The training builds on the best practices, methodologies, experiences and tools developed over the years of implementation experience. The first day focused on introducing the DTM and highlighting the global level initiatives that were referenced throughout the training which has helped to further strengthen the processes, approaches and methodology of implementing DTM through increased standardization. The second and third day focused on methodology for implementing the various DTM components. The last two days of the training focused on how to implement DTM by covering key aspects such as implementing DTM within the humanitarian system, project development and management.

The key objectives of the training were the following:

  1. Reinforce DTM as a system for tracking and monitoring displacement in migration crises
  2. Increase capacity in setting up, roll out and maintenance of DTM during migration crises
  3. Increase DTM staff understanding of GBV contributing factors, forms and consequences and learning on the identification of GBV-related risks in camps and camp-like settings through the DTM and procedures for referring sensitive information to the appropriate service providers
  4. Introduce the global core minimum standards set for DTM implementation in the field

Through the Global DTM Training, roster of DTM experts is increased so that staff can be deployed to set up and implement the DTM in emergency operations as the need arises. The key outcomes of the training are as follows:

  1. Participants are able to design, set up and implement all components of the DTM in line with global core standards
  2. Participants are able to effectively coordinate and manage a DTM operation
  3. Participants are able to integrate protection risk indicators into the DTM implementation
  4. Participants are able to ensure the referral of protection risk indicators captured by DTM

The participants include staff with current or potential responsibilities of setting up or managing the DTM in both operational and/or technical aspects of the implementation. The participants are selected based on meeting at least 2 out of the 5 following criteria:

  1. Experience working with DTM activities in the past or currently
  2. Operational experience
  3. Information management background
  4. Technical skills (Data management, Database, GIS, etc.)
  5. CCCM cluster coordination or management experience
